Penguin offers a wide range of products to customers including restaurants, cafes, schools, caterers, hotels and supermarkets, and also sells their own branded and imported products to other Distributors around New Zealand.

Penguin was using a manual system that struggled to keep pace with business mix changes and general growth, as well as being very labour intensive and error prone. They needed to replace this with a fast and accurate way of taking orders.

Each day, Penguin's telephone sales operators (TSOs) call customers to collect orders. TSOs need to quickly identify the products required based on customer preference, and be able to suggest alternatives if stocks are low or special offers apply. Details such as contract price, selling unit and carton quantity must be immediately accessible, and orders need to be entered with minimum keystrokes.

Penguin's TSOs now enter their orders using a PowerLink Solution. The Solution displays a list of preferred products for each customer, which can be recalculated at any time using the customer's sales history.  The Solution includes advanced product selection features to speed up data entry.  Customers can earn 'Best of the Best' loyalty points when they purchase certain products, and Penguin uses PowerLink to advise customers of their points progress each month.
